High school garage punks, The ORWELLS, are back with their third album in just as many years — “Remember When.” And you should download it . . . now.

Five delinquent suburban kids from Chicago who can’t legally buy a pack of smokes have crafted the best album of the year. Obviously my opinion is a little biased since my lil bro, Matthew (aka Baby Chuck), is a guitarist and songwriter in this outfit — but I think you’ll agree with my assessment even without blood ties. The ORWELLS’s music is alive and urgent and young. Honest. Songs about school shootings, loitering at the mall and laying in bed with girls — the fibers of adolescence.

These guys make The Black Keys look like an Instagram photo. Below are five of my favorite cuts:

“Lays At Rest”

“Halloween All Year”

“In My Bed”

Someone, anyone — sign these little brats and make them the next Jonas Brothers. The zeitgeist is blazing through these ruffians and it isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Lana Del Rey watch your buzz band back.

My kid brother, Matt, and his garage punk band The ORWELLS, have just finished recording their first LP! It took them a few weekends and more than a couple trips to South Town in order to complete it, but it’s finally here in all its angsty ADD OCD SAT adolescent driver’s permit anxiety gloriousness. Of course, since I’m the older brother and I turn these little bastards onto all the cool things in life (like taking a band photo where one of them holds a gun), I got to hear it first; it’s incredible.

Below are two of my favorite tracks.

The Orwells – Head

Big news! The Teenage Head member, Eric HEHR, has just released some of his recent musical rumblings, dubbed The Red Liar Demos, onto his myspace. Like myself, many of you remember and love the seminal Chicago power-pop outfit, The Villains Of Verona, and have decried Eric’s seeming absence from the music scene since their break-up. Well, he’s back…in a big way. I suggest everyone check it out and rock it full volume. All the kids are doing it!

You can read more about the project and check out the tuneskis by clicking here.

Between VOV and The Red Liar Demos, Eric kept himself busy by scoring our latest film, “Sun Sessions.” One song from the film, a garage rock tune co-written by Luke LUCAS, can be heard here.
